Felicity Smout

I am an Australian artist based on the Fraser Coast of Queensland. I work mainly in oil and acrylics on canvas and am often inspired by the landscapes, communities, people and animals of places I’ve lived and travelled to. Of these, there are so many places where I’ve found peace and serenity. My background is in Veterinary Medicine and Marine Biology with a PhD in Veterinary Parasitology, but it is painting that is my true passion and has been there with me every step of the way.

Through my paintings I try to create for viewers a sense of joy and an uplifting of spirit. I believe deeply in the regenerative power of art and its ability to reflect the beauty of our surroundings and remind us of the wonder of our amazing world. I endeavour to capture the essence of a moment in time using memories and emotion to create paintings that also tell a story. I aim to invite viewers into these moments and evoke feelings of happiness and calm, offering a place for the soul to wander, or to simply pause and reflect for a little while.

When I'm not making art you can find me spending time with my Dexter cattle, building my house, helping friends with their animals or getting out into nature with my best pal Murphy. Bringing back the wholesome Aussie values of the 1970/80s…one painting at a time.
